Mazzola_in_Aurora-300x200John Mazzola began his martial arts training in the summer of 1995 under the expert tutelage of Master Cristian Nelson in the first Illinois National Karate School. He was in the first white belt class, he was on the first Black Belt exam and was the first employees at the new expansion school in IL. In 1997 Master Mazzola earned his 1st Degree Black Belt and began his teaching career. He quickly distinguished himself as an excellent Instructor and an inspirational leader and as soon as 1999 was named the “Instructor of the Year”, awarded by the National Karate Schools board of Directors and placing him among the best instructors of the 28 school NK organization. In addition to teaching, Mr. Mazzola has always loved competing in sport karate tournaments and consistently placed in the top ranks of competitors during his fighting career.

Also in 1999, Mr. Mazzola was promoted to the Director position of the Elk Grove National Karate School where he has earned the prestigious “School of the Year” award. In 2009 he was again promoted to be the Regional Manager of the NK IL area. In 2010 he earned the rank of “Master” by promoting to his 5th Degree Black Belt and is a Krav Maga Certified Instructor.

In 2012 Master Mazzola earned ownership status and opened a new National Karate School in Aurora, IL. Now he is busier than ever running the Aurora location while continuing his Regional Manager duties.

He also loves to push himself and enjoys fighting, competing in triathlons, running, playing football and basketball. Master Mazzola is also an accomplished vocalist and sings the National Anthem at every NK Chicago Black Belt Exam.

He lives in the Aurora area with his wife Bethany, and his two boys Anthony & Nicholas.
