Meet Your Dojo Director Michael Drescher

Your Dojo Director at the National Karate in South Elgin is Michael Drescher. He’s ready to push you to heights you may have never thought possible. He understands that uncertainties may exist about the benefits of Karate for kids which is why he believes so strongly that your child should experience the discipline with full mind and body participation for themselves. He guides his students through the various stages of their Karate training with practicum and trust, all while supporting every child and adult as they develop in the most critical mental, emotional, and physical paradigms. He honors each person’s skill level and challenges you to limitlessness with intuitive poise as you or your children go from white to black belt and all future degrees.

The Road To Achievement For You And Your Child

Families are central at National Karate in South Elgin. Some of our families expressly set out on the journey of Karate for the benefit of their children facing challenges nothing else seems to address. Children often struggle with their ability to focus and hold their attention. According to Understood, martial arts like Karate help children with their coordination and comprehending the power of their mind or psychology over their body while improving motor skills, coordination, and attention. Parents with children taking Karate in Elgin report classes as one of the best decisions they’ve made for the benefit of their child. Karate benefits like discipline, focus, integrity, and honor helped their child excel in other areas of life, become more responsible and apply themselves academically.

Karate is known for cultivating perseverance in its students. We don’t allow our students to play small even though they may struggle through areas of their training. The struggle makes the fight and application worth it. Our students are so proud that we hold them to a standard, trusting wholeheartedly that they can get there. The pride on their beaming faces when not only did we not give up on them, but they didn’t give up on themselves is unmatched. This achievement pushes them to execute whatever is necessary to attain that next belt, learn that new skill, and put in the extra time to memorize that latest drill. This attitude begins to permeate every area of their lives.

More Than Karate

National Karate in South Elgin is more than Karate but a community. We understand that parents need all the help they can get. Having a facility like National Karate they can depend on is much more important. Our team is proud of our responsible leadership and programming. We strive to offer a variety of programming to support families holistically. Aside from Karate for kids, we have done some of the following activities:

Retro Game Night was a three-hour blast of classic to modern gaming. There were competitions for Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros., casual gameplay, pizza, cookies, and refreshments. We were heating up gaming systems and blowing cartridges from Nintendo to Switch. When parents need a few hours away from the kids (or want to feel like a kid), we want to be here for you.

Ninja Summer Camp is a must because even when school stops, kids don’t. Parents need activities that keep pace with the development of their children and keep them from becoming idle. We make Ninja camp one of those experiences kids are eager to attend. We offer plenty of activities, two different camp sessions in the June and July months, family discounts, camp souvenirs, credits, and activities from super soaker day, to javelin toss and a real-life fruit ninja!

Ninja Warrior Week was six days of fun classes where National Karate students could bring their friends. All activities were ninja-focused and related, including ninja sword sparring, ninja star throwing, and our own ninja obstacle course.

Leadership Program focuses on helping you develop your skills to lead others. Through the programs, students who’ve achieved a red belt will train to assist in teaching Karate classes while developing their personal martial arts skills. Program participants will demonstrate leadership skills in their regular classes with such leadership behaviors as practicing encouraging and supporting other students (soft skills), actively engaging through the class length, listening to instructors, and adding to a positive learning environment through respectful participation without disruptive behavior. Masters must first become teachers.

We value creativity and opportunities to create well-rounded students who also focus on civic engagement. We attend Elgin neighborhood events such as the 4th of July party with an interactive demonstration and more.
